Not allowed to disconnect from Virgin Media?
I’m really unhappy with Virgin Media, the most I’ve ever been.
Virgin have provided a bad service for the last few months, their traffic management is just a insult on top of the bad service. A few weeks ago I got Be installed and I finally started the long process of disconnecting from Virgin, or so I thought.
Turns out you can’t disconnect from Virgin if you have a outstanding balance, You have to pay 100% up front or they wont do anything, instead leaving your line connected racking up more service fees and late payment fees.
Very nice.
My Virgin bill is around £90, an amount I can’t just drop at a seconds notice. I thought that I’d be able to give 30 days notice then pay off the balance once I get my final bill in August.
Silly me.
*Edit*
Virgin Media has now decided to accept my disconnection on the basis of this blog post. Thank you, thats all I was asking for!

The same has just happened with my 80 Year Old Father. I am really disgusted. He told them he did not want to pay £1.25 paper charges but they did. Because of this they won’t allow him to disconnect.
His did give 30 days notice and I have told him to get them to take him to court. He has been with them since they were Telewest (Over 12 years).
What disgusting so called customer service for a man of 80. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Was with Sky before, thought I would give Virgin a try for the broadband speeds. Turns out you only get a fraction of the speed you pay for and the Customer NoService department don’t give a crap. By far the worst company I have ever had to deal with! Makes BT like a walk in the walk.

I just had the same problem. I cancelled over 3 months ago and Vigin Media conveniently forgot to cancel and didnt put it on their on screen notes.
The service is very poor. They continue to charge £23 a month for tv that they didnt provide for over 2 months, same for phone…i am paying line rental to both sky and virgin for my phone…
avoid virgin media at all costs

I had a slightly different problem, but am in the same mess. I called Virgin Media in March after it became apparant that I was paying well over the odds for what they offer new joining customers for the same services. After heading on a round the world tour of customer services departments, I finally spoke to a fairly switched on sounding chap, who said that he could guarantee me the fixed rate of £18 a month (excluding non contract calls) for the following 12 months if I committed to staying with Virgin over this period.
I thought this sounded reasonable so agreed. However, in April, they put their prices up on all accounts including mine.
I called Virgin about this, and they conceded that prices had gone up on all accounts and while they were very sorry nobody stated it to me, that was policy. In addition they said that I’m still tied into the account and would have to pay £160 to leave them!! So I’m tied in until next year, having been missold a product.
The comments about customer services are all true, they are very pleasant in a “we are not going to help you” type way. I’ve had to remonstrate with Virgin about my account charges a couple of times, they quite happily shove them up otherwise, and don’t contact to advise of changes either.
Overall, when things are good they are fine. However their actions have shown why they are not trustworthy as a service provider. I wish that I had seen the signs a couple of years ago.
BT and PlusNet or Talk Talk next time, which can’t come soon enought.
